A Haunting Masquerade Ball

I am so glad you stopped by my blog for a visit. I am a scrapper and paper artist and do hope that you'll browse my blog and be inspired. While attending a blog party last weekend, I became inspired by many who had written a Halloween story for the occasion. I thought I'd share with you my little (okay, it's a bit long) story. Oh, before I get caught up in the balls I plan on attending today, I'd like to invite you back in the next few days as I'll be giving away some vintage Halloween tags. I'm in the process of completing them now. I'll post pics most likely tomorrow. Again, thanks for stopping by.

A TALE OF HAUNTING AT THE MASQUERADE BALL

It was a night in October in the Fall
that I was invited to a Masquerade Ball

I was dressed in a gown of silvery gold
I'm Marie Antoinette from the French days of old

The manor was massive, a real scary sight
But its windows were glowing, cheery with light

I stood at the door, raised my hand, gave a knock
It opened on cue at the strike of the clock

Ladies and gents, walked and danced in the hall
I stood in the midst of the Masquerade Ball

The house was awash in costumes so bright
And I gaped and I wondered, bemused at the sight

The tables were laden with food and much more
Pumpkins and skulls and jars full of gore

Tall Candles were draped in cobwebs of white
Casting shadows about in a soft eerie light

I danced and I twirled with masked dancers alike
And one I turned down for he carried a spike!

The whirling and twirling gave me much cause to rest
So I walked to the garden with a hand to my chest

I glanced up at the sky and peered at the moon
It’s face was obscured by a witch on a broom!

I glimpsed toward the woods and gave a quick gasp
A cloaked man held a box, his hand on the hasp

The box they did bury beneath a large tree
And I wondered a moment of what it could be

They stood tall and solemn, in long hooded cloaks
Then walked along quietly, shrouded in smoke

I gave a quick shudder and ran back inside
Tried to set the mem’ry behind me, and put it aside

To soothe frazzled nerves, I grabbed a red wine
As fear and forboding caused chills up my spine

I walked among guests, ate some food with the host
When down from the stairs, I caught sight of a ghost

I screamed and I trembled and ran from the house
So frightened was I like a scared little mouse!

The ball had been fun and haunted for sure!
Maybe it was the effects of tainted licquor

So exhausted was I that I fell into bed
Still with my gown on and slept like the dead

thanks for reading my spooky tale. Leave a comment, I love to read them.
