Crayon Art---what fun!

My daughter found a crayon art project on YouTube and decided she wanted to make one.  So, off we go to Walmart, after getting my hair cut, to buy canvas, crayons and paint.   There are two different techniques she's going to do.  One is what you'll see below, the other is gluing the crayons to the canvas and melting them downward to create a design.  We only did one project today.

This is Jackie peeling the paper off the crayons.
Hold the crayon down with a knife and apply heat using a blow dryer.  A heat gun would work in half the time.
The paint swirls together creating a unique design depending on the angle of the heat gun/blow dryer and the colors you use.

The finished project!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out our newest project.  Come back soon---I'll have more to share in a few days.

A Couple of Projects Just Completed

I finished off two swaps for Your Paper Pantry and they've been mailed.  I can't wait to see what I get back!

These pockets I made are for the "Pockets For Your Thoughts" swap and the theme was Vintage Valentine.  I made three nearly identical pockets--they do vary a bit---and I'll get three different ones back.   I'm thinking of making a very small mini out of them.  We'll see.   I also did a video of the pockets that can be found here:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf3E1e14iYA

Here are the pictures of the pockets:   They are jam-packed with tags and we also had to send in a small goody for the receipient.  I sent each one a small package of flowers from the dollar bin at Michael's.

The other swap I was involved in was the "Artful Inspirations Deck".  For this swap we had to alter 14 playing cards and use a creative prompt for mixed media or for art journaling on one side.  My prompt was "alter an image from a magazine or book" and then I created a 'mini page' using that technique on the other side.

And here are all of them:

I'm now working on a travelogue, another set of cards for the Artful Inspiration Deck swap and will be making altered salt shakers for the February Romantic Cottage swap in the "For The Home" group at Your Paper Pantry.   I'll post those once I get them done.

Thanks for stopping by!

Join Us at the Rush Party!

Today is the day of the "Bloggerette Sorority Rush Party" being held today at Some Days Are Diamonds (click on the widget on my sidebar). I am one of at least 137 members (perhaps more at this point) of this sorority.  There will be parties (this being the first one!); giveaways; tours and workshops.  Sisters will be sharing creations and ideas from home decor to crafting --- oh, there's going to be so much fun in the coming months!

Our first assignment was to create something (anything!) using this photo:
I wasn't sure what to create until I started rummaging through my stuff and found a piece of corrugated cardboard that was already shaped into a book! How lucky could I get?! So, I just covered it with paper from My Mind's Eye (the Bella Bella collection), added a Prima flower, some pink lace (gotta have the Pink!); a vintage card (rose); a doily sprayed with Glimmer Mist (more pink), a lollipop flower and the diamond shaped bling because the site's name is...Some Days Are Diamonds. I covered the inside with coordinating paper but have yet to add inside pages. My plan is to use this journal as a place to keep track of all the happenings of the Bloggerette Sorority.
Oh, there were no rules regarding our creation, well, except for ONE.  We had to be in the picture with our creation.  Here I am, holding my journal:
Anyone can join this sorority. You can start at any time and get involved in future assignments, chats, etc. Please join us at Some Days Are Diamonds

Wishing you a Creative Day!

Why I LOVE Blogging!

Why do I love blogging? Well, blogging is fun. It's also addictive. I have found so many fantastic, wonderful, inspirational blogs that really get my creativity flowing. I never knew there were so many blogs relating to what I love to do---scrapping, paper crafting and altered art. I just joined Cupids Charms---a wonderful blog by a woman who creates jewelry from vintage finds---fantastic stuff! She's being featured in an upcoming Artful Blogging issue due on newsstands on May 1st. Because of this wonderful news, she is hosting a Beautiful Blogging party at her blog on May 1st. Please stop by and join us! The addy is: http://cupidscharm.blogspot.com. But, back to why I love to blog.

First of all, I never thought I would create, let alone, keep up with a blog. This is new to me and I'm still in the process of making this blog better and better in order to bring in followers--those that I admire and who (hopefully) will admire my work. Blogging is such a great opportunity to learn, to teach, to discover, to validate ourselves through our creativity and for what we love. I create scrapbook pages that tell a story and I'm also getting started in a business to create pages and albums for others who either are not inclined to scrap or just don't have the time. My business is Loridee Designs. I just created the blog a short time ago, not too long after creating A Scrap Mom's Musings. I also delve in other paper arts and am getting my feet wet with mixed media. Visiting other blogs has inspired me so much to create a better blog, to create better creations and to create new friendships. No wonder blogging is addictive!

I can't wait to meet new people and feel the inspiration! . So, why do I love blogging? It's a great way as I said to find inspiration and a fun way to make new friends. I'm still learning this blogging stuff, but so far, I'm LOVING it!
