Let's Catch Up--Shall We?

Hello bloggers:

I've been soooo busy!  The weather is getting milder and I'm loving it.  I'm outside as much as I can so my scrapping has been put to the side.   I can't believe that's it's been two weeks since I last posted so I'll do my best to catch you up on what I've been up to.  

First of all, I've been making samples of flowers for the bouquets for my daughter's wedding.  She's getting married August 17th so I want five bouquets done by the end of July.  I also have to make 7 boutonnaires.   Of course, with a wedding comes a bridal shower and my other daughter, who's the maid of honor, and I have been busy planning that as well.  I'm having a lot of fun with it too.  The shower is set for June 23rd and we're planning on a garden theme.   We'll have a tent set up outside by the pond that her future in-laws have in their back yard and I'll have paper lanterns hanging along with some whimsical flowers and butterflies.  It's going to be pretty.  I just can't wait!

I've also just finished up some swaps:  The "Green with Envy" Junk Journal swap over at Mini Album Scraps and the "Kitschy Flower Kit" swap over at Your Paper Pantry.   My partner for the junk journals was Evelyn Robinson.  I'll be doing a video of the journal she sent me tomorrow and will post on Youtube over the weekend.   Here's a picture of the one I sent to her.  

 

The theme for the Green with Envy Junk Journal swap was obviously green with some accent colors, but I wanted the journal to be about 80 percent green.  The other requirement was that about 50% of the pages had to be envelopes.  From what I've heard, all the swappers were very pleased with their journals they received.  I know I love mine!

The flower swap over at Your Paper Pantry was a lot of fun too.  We had to put together all kinds of items that we could use to make flowers and we could include handmade and store bought flowers as well.  I loved this swap! Here's a sampling of what I sent to Cari:

I also want to share what I bought at the Creating Keepsakes Convention that my daughter and I attended in April in Manchester, NH.  As always, I spent more than my budget allowed.  I just couldn't help it!   I think I'm going to do a separate post for that one.

As I mentioned in the beginning of the post, I've also been making paper flower bouquets for my daughter's wedding.  This is what I've come up with so far:

Make N Take Monday 3--Gift Card Holder

Today I have a Gift Card Holder to share with you.  Please excuse the quality of the photos.  I was doing this late at night in my bedroom where the lighting isn't that great.  Enjoy!

Materials:
cardstock
designer scraps
bone folder
trimmer
1" hole punch
scissors or Stampin' Up word window punch
sticky tape adhesive
Permanent adhesive

Step 1:  Cut the cardstock into a strip 4 1/4" x 11":

Step 2:  Score this strip at 3", 5 1/2" and 8"

Step 3:  Fold in the two panels (left and right side) towards the middle:

Step 4:  Fold the score line in the middle of the center panel upward to create a "mountain":

Step 5:  Flip over and attch sticky tape (red line) to the top, right side and bottom of the middle piece.  DO NOT put tape along the fold!

Note:  The panel to the right should not be glued. 
Step 6:  Fold the panel with the adhesive to the left and press down.  The piece of cardstock should look like an upside down "T":  This middle piece is where the gift card goes.

Step 7:  Using your SU word window punch, punch out 2 slots 1/4" in from both ends.  I don't have a SU punch, so I used scissors.  I just measured in 1/4" and cut a long slit to the opposite end as shown:

Step 8: Using a 1" hole punch or slightly larger, cut a notch in the center of this panel. This is to help pull out the gift card.

                         
Step 9:  Cover with designer paper.   You will need 2 pieces cut at 3" x 4 1/2". These are for the front and back "covers".   Adhere and ink the edges.  Now you'll need four contrast pieces cut  at 3" x 4 3/8" for the inside panels.  Adhere each piece to each outside panel but do not put the paper against the fold--this will cause bulk and the card will not close properly. 

For the center panels, you'll need to trace where the notches are.  Cut out and adhere:

I hope you understand the directions.  If not please let me know in the comment section.  I didn't add other embellies such as ribbons, sentiment, flowers, etc, due to time contraints and lighting, but I'll add those at another time  I just wanted to give you the basics of creating a gift card holder.

 I also found that this card can be used on layouts and mini albums for tags.  Just put a tag in the middle panel and journaling spots on either side or leave as is for photos.  That is what I plan to do for my next mini.

A 6x6 Mini Page to Share

I just completed this page for a swap that's going to be a gift for a special someone.  (Shhhh, I can't say).  We were told we could create any page we wanted--any style, so I went with a beach theme (seeing that it's summer).  The page is actually 4 pages in one!   I used a sheet from a Flap Album (remember my Easter mini album using the Flap Album pages?) and covered the pages with designer paper.  Take a look and share your thoughts.   I hope the recipient likes it. 

This page opens from the left to right.  I cut the shell border from The Slice, then embossed it.  I created 2 tags and added a mini starfish (real one) and a sanddollar sticker.  The title is from Jolee's.

Here's a closeup of the border:

The above page is the flap (with the border) opened up.  I used a sand castle and chair diecuts along with a heart doily that's been Glimmer Misted.  I added a rub on saying and a simple tag.  The left side is left blank for photo(s).

The above tag shows the front stamped with shells.  Here's the back of that tag:

This is the middle of the flip out page.  I created the 'sand castle' and used it as a pocket.  I cut out a wave from a textured sheet of paper and inserted a tag that has embossed sand dollars and a shell sticker (3D)

This page (above) is to the left of the sand castle.  I used a vintage style journaling page and a sticker that I used as a pocket to hold another tag.  Another 3D shell sticker is used to help pull up the tag.

It's very simple to allow room for journaling or a photo.  The bottom photo shows the back side of this tag:

This can be used for photo(s); journaling and is also a pocket for more photos and or journaling!

Make N Take Monday, Week 2

This week's Make N Take Project is an Altered CD Holder with Tag.  I hope you enjoy this project.

Materials:

CD Holder (the chipboard kind that you get with advertising CD's--can be found at Walmart)
Chipboard--cut to 4 1/2" x 4 3/4"
3 different Designer Papers cut to these sizes:  5" x 11"; 3 1/2" x 11" and 3" x 11"
Circle Punch
Stapler
Sticker Labels--2
Strong Adhesive
Ink
Chipboard letters, sticker letters or Rubon Letters for the title (not shown)
Assorted Embellishments such as flowers, ribbons, bling, etc


Step 1:  Using a strong adhesive, adhere the 5" x 11" piece of designer paper to the front,  Make sure the CD Holder is centered beneath the paper:

Step 2:  Turn over and add adhesive to the edges of the designer paper. Then fold the edges in from each side and adhere to the CD Holder:

Step 3:  Using a circle punch, cut a 1/2 circle in the top of the Holder.  This is to help pull out the tag.

Step 4: Repeat this process with the second piece of designer paper (size 3 1/2" x 11"). Center this piece of paper over the first piece.

Step 5:  Again, repeat Step 3 with the third piece of designer paper cut to size:  3" x 11". 

Step 6:  To create the tag, cover the chipboard piece, front and back, with coordinating designer paper cut to the same size:

Step 7:  Add your embellishments to the tag.  I did a white square then a yellow sticker frame, flower sticker and word sticker.  Note:  do not use too many bulky embellies or it won't fit in the holder.

Step 8:  Add coordinating ribbons and a flower accent.  I stapled my ribbons onto the tag and then covered the staple with flowers and a button accent.  I left the back side of the tag blank to add a sentiment or the recipient (if there is one) can add a photo as well.  My holder doesn't have a "title" yet.  I'm still thinking on that one!  I might do something like "Summer Fun".  Don't know.

You could create a small tag booklet using flat embellies as well.  This would also be a great addition to a mini album.  You could also make a smaller version and use it as a gift card holder.  I hope you enjoyed this project and have fun with it!
