A New Commission

I've just been asked to create 2 more mini albums as well as several sticky notepad holders for a woman who had ordered some items from me a couple of years ago.   I thought I'd re-share the mini beach mini I created and the post it note holders I made for a craft fair.     Carol, if you're reading this, please let me know if what you're looking for is shown here.  Thank you.

The two Easel Note Pads are easy to make.  One has a mini calendar and the other a photo mat.  The covers fold down to cover the post it note.  When the notepad is gone, just replace it with another.  No need to throw away the holder.  I was selling these for $3.00 each and they sold like hot cakes.  These are the last two I had.  

The above shows the post it note/memo pad desk caddy selling for $8.00.   The caddy is made from 

a 5 x 7 acrylic frame.  A matching pen also went with the set.

An assortment of mini spiral notebooks and altered mini composition books.  

The above 4 photos show the index card notebooks I made using my Cinch machine to create the spiral binding.  These decorated index card pad sold for $3.00 each.  I sold out of all of them.

Envelope Mini Album--Kathy Orta style!!

I am thrilled with this mini!  I created it for a swap over at Mini Album Scraps and it's so hard to give it away, but I know I'll get a beauty in return.   Although I've made several, actually dozens of minis, I had never made one in this style that Kathy Orta of Paper Phenomenon does.   Her tutorial found here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeAuRf-Zk-A on YouTube is in four parts and is quite easy to follow.   There is tons of  'real estate' for photos and journaling which is what I love about this mini.

Two Swaps to Share

I've been busy finishing up some swaps and finally got them in the mail on Monday.  Both of these swaps were at http://yourpaperpantry.ning.com">Your Paper Pantry .  The first one was in the Correspondence group titled:   "Pocket for Your Thoughts".  We had to make 3 file folder mini albums, preferably all different and we will received three different ones back.  I had alot of fun making these and they hold ALOT of photos and/or journaling spots. 

I used three different paper packs--to the far left I used the Bo Bunny "Gabrielle" collection-- in the middle I used the 12x12 Colorbok "Rosewood" paper pack which can be purchased at Walmart and

the far right mini uses the 7 Gypsies 'Conservatory" paper pack (6x6). The tutorial by Michelle of The Paper Addiction, was very easy to follow and can be found here:

The other swap I sent out was for the Embellishments group and the swap was March Grab Bag Embellies--Steampunk.  I made flowers and journal spots, five of each.  

I used the Sizzix Tattered Flower diecut (a Tim Holtz product) and cut the flowers from copper cardstock and foil especially made for crafting.  I then embossed the flowers and 'aged' the foil ones by smudging black ink, gold rub n buff and copper ink to get rid of the shine.  I then coiled some copper wire for the flower center and added a TH ideaology mini gear.  I also added a TH ideaology memo pin and glued a gear onto that.  I attached a clip and I apologize that I can't remember who makes the product, but I used that to attach a smaller flower.  I had some screening left over from a Tim Holtz class I took last year and I used it to make the leaves.  Perfect!  I like how they came out and am hoping the girls who receive them like them too!   

 

Above is the journal card I made.  I embossed steampunk clocks and gears over an entire sheet of 12x12 black cardstock that had a bit of a shine to it.  I believe the paper is made by Recollections.  The embossed a butterfly, added some wire for the antennae.  I had some bolt style brads and added them for effect then glued on a spiral paper clip, a large eyelet, an eye screw, a TH mini gear and a TH memo pin.  When the card is opened it looks like this:

The inside left is covered in copper embossed paper with a stamped Steampunk lady.  On the right is a spot to journal with stamped gears.

I have one more swap to complete and then I won't be swapping until the Fall.  I have bouquets to make for my daughter's wedding and a bridal shower to plan.

A GIANT Junk Journal to Share!

Let me warn you that this post is very photo heavy.  I hope you will read on and check out the very. big. journal.   

I just finished, a few days ago, a GIANT junk journal for Irene over at MAS, otherwise known as Mini Album Scraps.   She was flaked on by her partner last summer and waited several months to see if her partner would complete the journal and mail it to her.  Well, it didn't happen, so I offered to be an angel and do a journal for her.  The theme was to use your Leftovers and one store bought item.   I definitely used alot of 'leftovers'.  The storebought item(s) are the embellishments on the cover.  Oh, and did I mention that it was BIG!  Yes, it is 9" x 10".    It took me about 7 weeks only because of Christmas and having a horrible head cold and then the flu.   January was not a good month! 

Irene had requested of her partner that she wanted steampunk elements, lots of fold-outs, pockets, dressforms and a vintage look.  She also wanted a CHUNKY journal.  Well, she got it!  LOL.   So, here is the journal:

The journal is made from sturdy corrugated cardboard that's been covered with white cardstock and then overlaid with this almost transparent vintage key paper.   I sprayed the cover with Glimmer Mist--gold and then added all the embellishments:  a wooden dress form from Kaiser Craft, a metal flower from TH, a vintage button, a Recollections flower (brown) and a giant white flower from Recollections.  The paper doily was also glimmer misted.  I also added a bling flourish.  The edges of the book are inked.  I glued on a book mark to hold the journal pen.

The left side is a 6x6 sheet from Webster's that holds a tag.

The other page is stamped wit 'steampunk' images.

 

 

I covered a business size envelope with embossed paper and added a velcro dot as a closure

 

The right side is cut from a 12x12 transparency and is a pocket.  I added butterfly stickers.

 

 

On the right side, a used packaging from a TH package.  I loved the vintage look, so I thought:  "Why not?"  It IS a junk journal!

 

 

I created an 'explosion' element.  Each steampunk balloon is a corner pocket.

 

 

On the left page, I cut off the flaps of smaller envies and covered the inside and the outside.  I then punched a half-circle for ease of pulling out tags if Irene chooses.

One of Irene's wishes was to have steampunk elements in her journal.

 

I created a booklet to add lots of photos or journaling:

 

 

 

I downloaded some images of vintage ladies in corsets and used them as pockets for two tags that have stamped imaged of corsets.  This is also a pocket for two photo mats or journaling blocks.

 

I cut down an ordinary brown bag and glued the sides.  I used the 'cardboard' packaging from K&Co. as an over-sized tag.   (I forgot to cover the back of it---oops).

 

The envelope pocket and tag insert is from Melissa Francis.  I stamped steampunk images on them.

 

 

 

 

I covered a lunch bag with assorted papers and created two pockets for tags

This is the back of the paperbag.

 

I thought this would make a cute pocket as well--it's a CD envie that I glimmer misted.  I also inserted a vintage photo mat.

 

To the left is a photo sleeve that I made into a pocket that holds a vintage image of a lady with a parasol, a library card, a stamped dressform image and a photo mat.

 

This page has four fold-outs that can hold photos, or hidden journaling.  I downloaded vintage images of corsets--thought Irene would like these.

 

 

I added a doily to the top right corner and, again, used packaging (Prima) as a pocket to hold more downloaded vintage images.

 

 

A tri-fold page using paper from Webster's.  It's also a pocket holding 3 cards.

 

 

 

sorry for the blurriness--the left side is a circle piece of paper (not sure where I got it) which is yet another pocket holding two photo mats or journaling blocks.   The opposite is a reproduction vintage post card.

 

 

On this page, I created a 5x7 card and adhered two vintage images of ladies. 

 

 

 

Obviously this is the back cover.  I'm not sure if you can see the 'shine' from the glimmer mist.

And here you can see that it's bound with over-sized binder rings with lots of ribbons.
